An Update…

What’s that saying? “If you want God to laugh, make plans”?

I’m going to have to delay the release of Bloodbonded. I promise you all that I’ve been working on it—I really have! But the end of the school year usually brings with it a lot of demands on my time, and I think I underestimated how much time I’d have this month to really devote to finishing it up. In addition, a couple of my beta readers aren’t quite done with the last read-through, and my artist is still working on one of the maps, and I don’t want to publish without those final pieces complete.

There is some good news, though:

  • The betas have, overall, given positive feedback. So far, the biggest change I’ve made wasn’t even that big or that difficult—it involved rearranging a couple of chapters and expanding a couple of scenes. And really, it seems like most of you kind of like reading more of Connor and Mairead, so I didn’t feel like I was burdening you with a couple thousand extra words.
  • I’ve received enough feedback that I’ve actually started my own final read-through to look for typos and begin formatting. It’s slow going; I’m ridiculous about proofing. But I don’t anticipate major changes beyond the ones I’ve made so far, so I felt like it was safe to at least start the process of formatting and proofing.
  • I’ve finally managed to completely divest myself of my volunteer job! That’s probably the biggest news. A good portion of my personal time the last couple of weeks has involved the process of transferring leadership and administrative stuff to my replacement and finishing up those things I needed to complete. I have one more small event to lead, and then I’m done. I’m not sure what my role will be with the troop next year, but for now, I’m not planning on anything. That may change by September. Hard to say right now.

If you’re one of the folks I put on the “early reader” list, just hang tight—it’ll be a couple more weeks, most likely.

If you’re NOT one of the “early readers” and would like to be, shoot me an e-mail or post below. I’ll add you to the list.

And if you’re one of the threes of fans who’s waiting eagerly for the publication—hang in there! It’s coming, I promise. I don’t want to give you a new date until I get the final input back from betas, but my best guess is that it will be sometime in June. It will definitely be this summer.

I feel really awful about giving everyone a date and then not following through, but this is life, isn’t it? It’s unpredictable and messy. The great thing about self-publishing ebooks is that we can be flexible and adaptive. Next time, I’ll have the entire thing complete before I promise a date. Live and learn…

I will update here again as soon as I have more updates to give. I’ll nag the betas and the artist. And I’ll get everything else done as quickly as I can.

Thanks for understanding, guys. You’re the best.

FWIW, I’m glad you choose to complete the work before publishing. Benefits of self-publishing.
    Waiting patiently!
    thanks!

You know, there are only a few things that can really be called “finished” when they’re still a little undercooked… Like brownies, for instance. Books? Not so much. Better to make sure it’s cooked all the way through, like chicken. No one should get food poisoning… 😉
